SUMMARY:Beaches Sangha Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Beaches Sangha is a welcoming Secular Buddhist group\, inspired by the traditional concept of ‘sangha’ as a spiritual community. We focus on practical insights from the Buddha’s teachings to help navigate life’s challenges. Our meetings explore Buddhist teachings in a modern\, accessible way\, led by our experienced teacher Lenorë Lambert\, an Organisational Psychologist with over 20 years of practice and author of ‘The Buddha for Modern Minds’. \nThis week we will be discussing: \nThe Guest House (Rumi)\nTranslated by Coleman Barks \nThis being human is a guest house.  Every morning a new arrival. \nA joy\, a depression\, a meanness\, some momentary awareness comes as an unexpected visitor. \nWelcome and entertain them all!  Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows\, who violently sweep your house empty of its furniture\, still\, treat each guest honourably.  He may be clearing you out for some new delight. \nThe dark thought\, the shame\, the malice\, meet them at the door laughing\, and invite them in. \nBe grateful for whoever comes\, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond. \nThe Guest House – Discussion Guide \nNew members are always welcome\, whether you’re new to meditation or Buddhist teachings — contact Brett Ullman via sa************@***il.com (0438 653 472) for more information or to discuss your first visit. \n\nCost: Minimal annual contribution to cover venue and group expenses\nFirst-time Attendees: Welcome to attend the first meeting free of charge\nWhat to Bring: Meditation cushion or mat (wooden floor)\, chairs provided\nParking: Available in vacant lot opposite Peace Park or along Dreadnought Rd

Our meetings explore Buddhist teachings in a modern\, accessible way\, led by our experienced teacher Lenorë Lambert\, an Organisational Psychologist with over 20 years of practice and author of ‘The Buddha for Modern Minds’. \nThis week we’ll be discussing an Insight Dialogue teaching by Gregory Kamer titled The Interpersonal Path to Freedom \nhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wwle_lQ-BFc \n“Insight Dialogue is a relational meditation practice.  It brings together meditative awareness\, the wisdom teachings of the Buddha\, and interpersonal dialogue. \nBy pausing\, relaxing\, opening\, and listening deeply\, we bring mindfulness into conversation itself.  Speaking and listening in this way reveal our habits of clinging\, fear\, and separation\, while also opening the door to compassion\, clarity\, and freedom. Dialogue becomes a path of awakening.” — Gregory Kramer\, Insight Dialogue \nDiscussion Questions \n\nWhat feels different about practicing mindfulness in dialogue\, compared to sitting meditation in silence?\nWhich of the Insight Dialogue guidelines (Pause\, Relax\, Open\, Trust Emergence\, Listen Deeply\, Speak the Truth) speaks most to you\, and why?\nHow might relational meditation change the way we interact in Sangha or in daily life?\nWhat obstacles arise when trying to be fully present in speaking and listening?\nCan dialogue itself be a path to insight? What are the risks and the benefits?\n\nNew members are always welcome\, whether you’re new to meditation or Buddhist teachings — contact Brett Ullman via be***********@***il.com (0438 653 472) for more information or to discuss your first visit.

\nThis week we’ll be discussing Ezra Klein’s podcast interview with Stephen Batchelor\, asking the question “What is this?” \nThe Most Powerful Question I’ve Heard | The Ezra Klein Show \nI like to start the year with a few episodes on things I’m personally working on. Not resolutions\, exactly. More like intentions. Or\, even better\, practices. One of those practices\, strange as it sounds\, is repeatedly asking the question: “What is this?” It’s a question I got from a book of the same name\, by Stephen and Martine Batchelor. In that book\, they are describing an approach to Buddhist meditation built on the cultivation of doubt and wonder. You can see that as a spiritual practice\, but it’s also an intellectual and ethical one. It is\, for me\, a practice that has a lot of bearing on politics and journalism. Stephen Batchelor’s latest book\, “Buddha\, Socrates\, and Us: Ethical Living in Uncertain Times\,” explores those dimensions of doubt more fully. And so I wanted to have him on the show to discuss the virtues of both certainty and uncertainty\, the difficulty of living both ethically and openly. You can see this as a conversation about our inner lives or our outer lives\, but of course they are one. And Batchelor\, as you’ll hear\, is just lovely to listen to. \nNew members are always welcome\, whether you’re new to meditation or Buddhist teachings — contact Brett Ullman via he***@************ha.org (0438 653 472) for more information or to discuss your first visit.

We also have alternate sessions to add variety\, such as: \n🌿 Beaches Sangha – Evening with Adam Baldwin \nThursday 6 November | 7:00 – 9:30 pm\nPeace Park\, corner Wakehurst Parkway and Dreadnought Road\, Oxford Falls \n🧘‍♂️ Innocence Meditation and Walking Practice \nThis Thursday\, our friend and meditation teacher Adam Baldwin will lead a special evening exploring what he calls “innocence meditation” — a gentle visualisation practice that acts as a palette cleanser for the mind. \nWe’ll begin with a quiet walk through Peace Park\, opening our senses to the natural world around us. Adam will then guide us in a seated meditation designed to help us loosen our habitual identities and see life freshly — beyond the concepts and beliefs that usually shape our experience. \n“We start our days filled with thoughts\, worries and aspirations.\nBut what if our ideas about who we are veil our true nature?\nWhat if letting go of those ideas allowed us to see life as it really is?”\n— Adam Baldwin \nAfter the meditation\, we’ll gather for a warm and open discussion about what we discovered through the practice. \n🌼 Practical Details \n\nWhen: Thursday 6 November\, 7 – 9:30 pm\nWhere: Peace Park\, corner Wakehurst Parkway and Dreadnought Rd\, Oxford Falls 2100\nWhat to bring: Comfortable walking shoes\, weather-appropriate clothing\, and an open mind\nWho: Open to all – no prior meditation experience required\n\nNew members are always welcome\, whether you’re new to meditation or Buddhist teachings — contact Brett Ullman via be***********@***il.com (0438 653 472) for more information or to discuss your first visit. \n\nCost: Minimal annual contribution to cover venue and group expenses\nFirst-time Attendees: Welcome to attend the first meeting free of charge\nWhat to Bring: Meditation cushion or mat (wooden floor)\nParking: Available in vacant lot opposite Peace Park or along Dreadnought Rd
